Today in the land of Spring Break, aka, Sunny South Florida, it is raining. Yes, raining on our big beach day. My daughter said, "Why doesn't God just send rain when we are sleeping? Then it would never ruin our plans."
Very interesting question. How many times in our lives does the rain (challenges) fall at inconvenient times? What is our reaction? Do we face the rainy season with a positive "I'm-going-to get-through-this" attitude?
Sometimes the rain lasts for days, weeks, and months. We wonder if it will ever stop. Do we persevere with Plan B or sometimes, C, D, E, F, etc.? Or do we just sit down and let the rain win?
In the middle of the heavy rains, do we look around and still find beauty or something positive?
If our lives only had rain at our convenience---we would never experience personal growth. We would never find some of the deep down strengths we have. We would not cultivate those character traits that refine and make us new and improved when the sun comes out.
In my life, I have made choices to 1)Let the rain win or 2) To learn from the rain regardless of the timing. The rain in my life always brings great personal growth in way that the sunny days cannot. Renewed and strengthened are my capacity for compassion, empathy, love, understanding, acceptance, forgiveness, and humility.
The rain, it seems, is something to be grateful for, and I certainly feel that gratitude. Choosing to learn from the rain, no matter how long it lasts or how heavy the drops, has made a remarkable difference for the good, in my life
As a result of rainy times, the sunny times are to be savored. Most of us would acknowledge there is much more sun than rain, yet during a rainy season, it is easy to lose that perspective.
Rain will always fall in our lives, it is up to us to decide the lessons we will learn while it is raining. Lessons learned during the rain make sunny times more beautiful.
As I always tell my children, you may not appreciate this rain, but someone, somewhere prayed for this rain.

It's my brother Steve who prays for the rain, he thinks rainy days are prettiest, and if you think of it from a photographers point of view, all that beautiful filtered light, he's kind of right.
Beautiful post though and a good thing to learn while we are young.
Another thing to think about is would you really take your challenges back, if you also had to take back all the beautiful things that you learned from them? Sometimes the answer may be yes, but often I think it would be no.
