4th Of July

These are photos from last year's event..just thought I would give this idea in advance to provide ample preparation time if you decide to use it.
What started as a simple Patriotic Bike Parade on 4th of July several years ago, has turned in to a huge Church event to look forward to each year. This idea can be adapted to your neighborhoods, playgroups, or family reunions. The children decorate anything with wheels, i.e. bikes, scooters, strollers, skateboards, wheelchairs, skates, etc. I invite the local newspapers to attend and always ask the photographer to stay for breakfast.
The morning begins with a Flag Ceremony, Patriotic Song, and the Parade begins. Every year, it becomes more creative. Children bring candy to through, bubbles to blow, etc. as they parade past a "cheering crowd" After a few laps around the back parking lot at church, we head inside for a Pancake Breakfast with the works. The heat factor determines how many laps around the parking lot! We have so many little ones, it is not safe to go out on to a major road or sidewalk.
Once every one is seated, a US History Trivia Questions Sheet is distributed, one per table. Each table works as a team to answer the questions. I had to rule out blackberries, cell phones, lap tops, or any other outside help. This has become a fun competition. In the promo for this activity, I tell people to bring their US History "A Game"
Katherine inside at one of the Pancake Breakfast Tables. My decorations get used every year in some way or another. They look a little different each time.
This is Marquelle's daughter and son with his back to her with their cousin on the left.
