Shooting At Wendy's Today
The news of another random senseless shooting hit too close to home today. Although there are two Wendy's closer to me, I have been to the one where this tragedy took place many times over the years. It is the one on Military Trail and Cherry Road near the Palm Beach International Airport.
A young off-duty Firefighter was attending a Firefighters Training Seminar near this Wendys. At lunch time, he met his wife and young son for lunch. They left the restaurant and when they were loading into the car, they realized that the child had left his Kids Meal Toy inside the restaurant, the young father ran back in to the restaurant to retrieve the toy and was killed at point blank range by the gunman who began firing shots randomly throughout the restaurant. Then, as seems to happen in these cases frequently, the gunman turned the gun on himself and he was gone.
One innocent person is dead and at least 5 wounded are in the hospital.
It is an understatement to say that we live in crazy, crazy world. This could have happened any place to any one.
Tonight, my prayers are with this young widow and now fatherless child. I will not take my daily safety for granted as I go about my days.
PS- The firefighter who was killed and his widow have 5 children. Now she will be raising them alone.

NY saw that on the news last night and came downstairs to tell me. I truly and honestly feel sick just thinking about it. I'm glad all our Wellington friends are okay and my prayers are with the families affected by this horrible event.
And I think I have it bad sometimes. Poor woman and her son.
Nik told me about this during dinner but he didn't know who had died. I looked on Fox news last night and my heart sunk when I saw the quotes from Steve Delai regarding the slain firefighter. When I read those words, I knew the firefighter worked with Ellen (steve's wife) at the station in RPB and they were like parents to me.
Even though I haven't lived at home for 3 years it still hits close to my heart. Then I realized I have eaten at that Wendy's numerous times... and that started a whole other bout of feelings.
I'm so very sad for the fireman's sweet wife and their 5 children and that the Delai's have a lost a friend.
Thank you for posting this Shauna.
