Sour Cream Sugar Cookies
This is the recipe you will always use for cut out sugar cookies
and amazing cookie frosting!!!!
Once you try this recipe...you will love it!
They are the perfect texture and taste.
This recipe comes from my friend, Lynelle....
This is a great summer afternoon baking recipe...make a
batch and let your kids decorate them during one relaxed
summer afternoon vs the tradtional Christmas Cookie
decorating and such a busy time of year.
I'm not up for decorating cookies with kids during a
busy time. Summer is the ticket for me!
1 C Shortening (I used butter)
1 C Sugar
2 Eggs
2 tsp Vanilla
1 C. Sour Cream
4 C. Flour
1 tsp Baking Soda
2 tsp Baking Powder
Pinch of Salt
Cream the Shortening and sugar, add eggs and beat until fluffy. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Chill dough for 4-6 hours or overnight. Roll out and cut into shapes. Bake at 375 for minutes (more or less). DO NOT OVER BAKE. These cookies do not brown. As soon as the edges get a little gold, they are done. Cool then top with frosting.
Frosting:
(For special occasions, add a few drops of food coloring)
8 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
1/2 C. Butter
1 lb. Confectioners Sugar
1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract**
1-2 Tbsp Water, if necessary
Beat Cream Cheese and Butter until smooth and fluffy. Add Sugar and Vanilla. If necessary, add 1-2 Tablespoons water.
**Almond Extract may be substituted OR for a delish, and I mean delish frosting... substitute the Vanilla Extract with1-2 Tbsp of Orange Juice. If you like Lemon...use Lemon Juice. You get the idea!
