Attending The General Young Women Meeting on March 28 was a dream come true for a few reasons...One, I finally have a daughter of my own to attend with and Two, Attending in person was something I will never forget!
I have attended General Conference Sessions for many years, and, don't get me wrong, I have LOVED and appreciated the opportunity to sit in the Tabernacle and now, The Conference Center to soak in General Conference first hand. However, the spirit at The General Young Women Meeting was, by far, the strongest I have ever felt at any session of General Conference.
The messages were incredible. President Monson's message was amazing and Sister Dalton...oh my...I just wanted to hug that sweet woman!!!!
And...the video....watch it, if you haven't! If you have ...watch it AGAIN!!!!
How can the spirit NOT be present in abundance when discussing the new Young Women Value, VIRTUE? Wow! Did I say...Wow! I meant WOW!!!
As the congregation and choir sand "Shall The Youth of Zion Falter?", I had a strong witness that the answer is NO, however, I need to stay close to my children as well as all the Youth who are placed in my path.
After watching Ron take each one of our sons to General Conference Priesthood Sessions in the Tabernacle over the years....this year was MY TURN. I feel blessed beyond words to have had to opportunity to take Katherine to The Young Women Broadcast in person. We sat on row 13 directly in front of the podium. We literally sat at the feet of the Prophet of the Lord while we were taught. You can be sure that every effort will be made to have Megan attend her first YW Meeting live in The Conference Center. I feel a tradition taking hold!!!
Note the AWESOME Young Women Value Banners donning the outside of The Conference Center.
I want these for our Young Women Room at The Wellington Ward Chapel!!!
And a set for my girls' bedrooms would be nice too!
Here is Katherine at The Young Women's Value Garden outside The Lion House.
After the YW Meeting, I kept waiting for the lights to come on at The Salt Lake Temple...they never did. It was the "Green Project" night where all major cities were to turn off the lights of main landmarks for an hour (I think that is how long it was) in an effort to conserve resources around the world. Hence the temple is so dark in the background This photo was taken by a woman from Missouri, who became my friend by the time the photo session was done (If you know me...this does not surprise you!) Now, I am not one to write letters or make suggestions to the General Leadership of The Church, however, this is something that has been on my mind for years.....
I wish, I wish, I wish that The Relief Society and Young Women Broadcasts could be held on the Friday night of actual Conference Weekend. Why, you ask?
- Women and Young Women would feel more a part of General Conference
- Attendance would soar as Women and YW feel like "their session" is actually part of General Conference.
- Yes, I know, Friday night is usually Mission Reunions....well, Thursday night would have to be programed in to every one's rhythm or....Saturday night AFTER the Priesthood Session. There is a way...
- People who travel from far away for The Relief Society Broadcast or The Young Women Broadcast could actually attend a session of General Conference on Saturday or Sunday while they are still in town. With the Broadcasts being One Week in advance, staying in town for one week is generally not possible.
- I KNOW the logistics can be worked out. Yes, I KNOW the logistics can be worked out.
- New traditions would be formed amongst family and friends. Yes, it would be an adjustment. Life is full of changes.
- I would LOVE to see the Women of the Church from around the World feel like their session is included in General Conference on the actual weekend of General Conference. Living so far away from a strong population of Latter day Saints, it is difficult to establish the importance of attending the RS or YW Broadcasts.
Yes, I have more thoughts on this subject, however....for now...you get my drift. For me.....I will attend The Relief Society and Young Women Sessions whenever they are, as I always have.
