Just For My Family

(And a Few Million Others)
This thought from Daily Gems (see below) took me straight back to one summer when I was in Salt Lake with my family. When we are in Salt Lake, our Sunday tradition is to go to Music and The Spoken Word with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and then head across the street to the Joseph Smith Building for Sacrament Meeting. The Ward we attend, happens to be the Ward that President Hinkley and President Faust were members of.
It was a special experience to see them at Sacrament Meeting. Andrew, Jeffrey, and I think, Curt, had the opportunity to pass the Sacrament in this Ward.
These beautiful memories are mixed with one that has never been forgotten....
Picture this:
Sitting in Sacrament Meeting, close to the front.
President Hinkley is presiding up front on the stand....
Your Cell Phone Rings (mine)
And Rings
And Rings
Because you can't reach it at the bottom of the Diaper Bag!!!
I was MORTIFIED! RED FACE MORTIFIED
My teenage sons thought it was hilarious...
Funny enough that they still call my phone when they KNOW I am in Sacrament Meeting..just to keep me on my toes.
Generally, I remember to turn it off before entering a meeting.
Sometimes I don't...
And obviously, there are many others who do not remember...
Or, sadly there are too many who just ignore the sacred reason we are there.
I have and continue to repent of this blatant disrespect.
I loved this message from Elder Oaks... I NEED this message from Elder Oaks.
I can still remember sitting up and hanging on his every word.
Activities That Interfere With The Sacrament....

"During sacrament meeting—and especially during the sacrament service—we should concentrate on worship and refrain from all other activities, especially from behavior that could interfere with the worship of others."
Dallin H. Oaks,
"Sacrament Meeting and the Sacrament", Ensign, Nov. 2008, 18–19

Have you been in a meeting where Cell Phones go off?
Has this happened to YOU?
Do you remember this message from Elder Oaks?

I just have to tell you I have found your blog just delightful!! I love how you turn everything into a positive note...wish more people were like you. :) As for Sacrament Meetings...not only do I wish people remember to turn off their cell phones, but to remember to teach the children to be reverent. Sometimes it gets hard to hear the speakers.

Love your BLOG!!
