A Moment Of Weakness

Or a Moment of Knowing When to Say Yes and When to Say No
Maybe a little of both, regardless, TWO Hamsters joined our family over the weekend. Read below for how they became ours.

Saturday was our Neighborhood-Wide Garage Sale (1 of 4 during the year-the gates are open and everyone is welcome to host their own Garage Sale-it is a very fun day!)
One of the best descriptions of Megan is: Tender Animal Lover. She has a great love/need for cuddling little furry creatures (she did not get this from me)
One of the absolute rules... these rodents, oh, I mean, hamsters, must live on the patio. And they do.
During the Garage Sale hours, I answered a call from Katherine. It was an EMERGENCY! She MUST speak with Megan NOW. When I inquired about the nature of the EMERGENCY, she told me about FREE HAMSTERS at one our our neighbor's Garage Sales.(Thanks, dear neighbor...have I got a PTA assignment for YOU)
NO! I said. I don't want to have Hamsters! NO! (Then there was that part of me that knew I needed to say YES) I remember Sister Hinkley saying it is important to say YES as often as possible because you have to say NO so many other times when NO really matters.
Ron and I spoke about the potential of Hamsters and agreed, Megan NEEDED this experience.
YES...with the promise the she would PAY for all of their NEEDS and that they will live on the covered shady area of the Patio (in Florida that is totally possible)
Not long after the EMERGENCY phone call. The Hamsters came home. Later, we went to WMt and Pet Smart for Hamster Supplies. Megan, Katherine, and their two friends, Taylor and Skylee had enough money to get these Hamsters set up in comfort and style.
Now...here is my biggest reason I wanted to say NO....
Not just because I don't like little furry critters-especially Rodents!
Not because of the SMELL
Not because my sons already had Hamsters that escaped and got lost in our house in Royal Palm Beach...I could hear them in the walls at night.
It is because....
Every living thing eventually has to die....
I cannot stand to see what an animal's death does to Megan. It absolutely pains me inside and out to watch her suffer when an animal she loves dies. When her heart breaks, so does mine.
We have had a dog die (drown in our pool) and a Guinea Pig die, so I know what I am talking about in the pet track-record department.
I just have to hope and pray these little critters stick around for awhile (did I just write that?
Have you ever had Hamsters or any other little furry creature as a pet?
Do you understand the importance of saying Yes,
because of all times you must say NO?

We had every kind of animal (domestic and farm along with a few exotic)when th ekids were growing up. I taught them from the get go that...pets are part of our family. We care for them, love them but they do die. Living rural as we did, we lost pets to hawks, coyotes and an occasional mountain lion.
