Until I can assemble my thoughts into words that won't ramble, I'll keep this short.
I need to comment on Oprah's reunion with her sister, Patricia, on yesterday's show.
I am SO HAPPY for all of them.
Kudos to Oprah for handling the situation directly and with honesty.
Double Kudos to Patricia and her children for handling the situation PERFECTLY.
If you have not watched the show, take time to do so and listen listen listen to Oprah and Patricia's words-especially the last 1/3 of the show.
They are in the "honeymoon" period of their reunion-Dear Media: That means LEAVE THEM ALONE. As they both said, they are still "figuring out" their relationship and processing everything. They will do fine and even better if the media leave them alone. Everyone be happy for them and let them enjoy this miracle. Patricia clearly does not want to make $ or gain fame from this situation. She wants to feel the wholeness that comes from knowing where you come from.
The only factor that was missing yesterday was TROY DUNN-aka The Locator. His perspective and view on adoption and reunion is spot on. Every Birth Mother, Adoptee, Adoptive Parent, and anyone who knows one of these people needs to listen to a presentation by Troy.
Adoption is a miracle and so are adoption reunions when the time is right.
