The Mormon Moment

With Mitt Romney nominated as a candidate for US President, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (my faith) aka The Mormons are in the spotlight. Within our religious community, this season in history is known as "The Mormon Moment".

A few weeks ago, I got a call from a reporter from the Palm Beach Post. She was working on a story featuring the Church in this area. It was a wonderful experience to spend the week coordinating interviews with her. I had the unique perspective of being involved in both Stakes here in Palm Beach County and I know members of the Church in each Ward in Palm Beach County and beyond. We have lived here for many years and experienced boundary changes, shifts, etc. at every turn.
I invited the reporter to a Youth Conference  dance and to Sunday Sacrament Meeting. The Youth Conference was definitely something different than she was expecting. She interviewed several of the youth and they represented their beliefs and standards very openly. The photographer on assignment at Youth Conference was so impressed by the youth and the "pure joy" on their faces.  He expressed to me that their faces radiated genuine happiness that he does not have the opportunity to photograph often. He had a great time photographing the youth at the dance. Each time he was packing up and about ready to leave, a new song would start and he would race back in to the dance and start taking more pictures.

As with any media, there is always uncertainty until the actual information comes out in print. All in all, this was a positive article featuring some of the most wonderful people I know.
