When my mom's mother passed away 29 years ago, I was blessed to receive her china.
My mom had given this china to her mother before she was married and so it was determined that the china would go to me. It was my first and only set of very nice china.
We lived in our first little home in Greenacres when my dad delivered the 2 large boxes of
professionally wrapped and packed china to us.
He hand-carried them from Utah to Florida as "carry-on" items. They were large boxes so I am sure it was cumbersome to bring them all this way. Today with all the TSA rules, I am sure that could not have happened. Over the years, I kept the china in the original professional packing through 4 moves and finally un-packed it at our last house in Wellington. It sat in my china cabinet the entire time we lived there. As I was packing up my house (with the help of amazing angels), I determined that when I moved to my next house, I would use this beautiful china. As Mother's Day approached, I invited my mom to come for a visit. When I knew she could be here, I put the plan in place to use her mother's china on this special day.
I had to hunt for "pussy-willows" for my flower arrangement as a compliment to the design on the plates. It was a beautiful table setting and made me commit to use this china a few more times per year-perhaps when the boys are home, so they can have the experience of eating on these beautiful dishes that I enjoyed as a little girl at my Grandma's house for special occasions.
Happy Mothers Day
