My son, Andrew, is serving as a missionary in Peru Trujillo. He left in May 2006.
From time to time, I will share thoughts and experiences surrounding his service.
This being my 3rd son to serve as a missionary, you would think certain words or phrases would not raise my blood pressure, however, when a missionary is at the Missionary Training Center prior to his 2 year mission, along with studying a foreign language and the doctrines, I have become convinced there is another class that needs to be added to the schedule--"Words and Phrases you don't write or speak to your mom for Two Years"
This week's phrase: "I don't know why the locals enjoy throwing rocks at this tall Gringo." Other words he has used, Gang Wars, Parasites, Machete, and Ice Cold Showers. These are a few of the highlights.
It should be noted that when using any of these phrases or words, he does not whine or complain--I just worry and then pray. I am thankful for his attitude and commitment.
Of course there are incredible words he shares. Those that show the growth he is experiencing, those that make a mother cry tender tears of joy and gratitude.

The older I get, the more I realize how it's the mom's that have to be brave. We pray for the missionaries every night, we'll pray for yours too. :)
