Tomorrow is the big day... children all over the USA are encouraged to spend the day at work with their parents. This day was orginally promoted as "Take Our Daughters To Work Day" which, at that time, caused great debate in my family. Why??? We only had sons! Three sons...zero daughters. As a mother of sons only, I felt somewhat slighted for a few seconds and then figured out I could still take my sons to work and enjoy this day.
Time certainly changed our family. The three sons are grown and gone, one married, one at college, and one in Peru serving as a missionary. Tonight, our household is much different from the early days of "Take Your Daughters To Work Day", we have two daughters at home now, excitedly planning their day at the office instead of the classroom. Generally, they head to work with dad in the morning, go out to lunch, and then I pick them up (rescue dad) so they can work with me the balance of the day.
Honestly, this day is very inconvenient for school and the workforce. Low productivity in schools and places of business. Our schools are supportive of this day and grant an excused absence to those who particpate. We attempt to make it a fun day, the girls are usually assigned an empty office and given "work and assignments" to do. We also support the school make-up work that is expected.
How do your children spend this day? Are your schools and workplaces supportive?

One of my daughters favorite memories ever is when her Dad took her to work. My daughter was 3 1/2, my husband had prepared a check-list for her on a clip board. He would tell her to check off tasks as he completed them. She was at work with him for about 40 mins. It amazes me, but she still remembers it in detail. I don't think she realizes that her work day was so short. We then took her to lunch. She had a purse with "lip-chap" and sun-glasses which she was happy with until she realized that her dad had a brief case, then she wanted one of those instead.
My husbands company quit participating in this day and it has always made me sad. I still wish she could go with him even if it was just for an hour.
