When he was eleven years old, he got a new Boy Scout Leader, Gary A. In an effort to get to know each of the boys, Gary asked them what their interests were and what they like to do. Gary got the usual answers: sports, collecting things, going to the beach, etc. Then it was Curt's turn, Curt told him "I like to read the classics" With this information, Gary did something that has impressed me to this very day. He came over to our house, asked to see Curt's book collection, and a few minutes later, I saw them sitting on the floor in Curt's room reading one of Curt's classics together. I have used this example over and over of how a Leader/Teacher truly cared and took an interest in his student. Gary could easily have said, well, let's go play baseball or golf (something he was good at) but he had such a love for those he taught and their needs. (contd below)
Gary, his wife, Nancy, and their children moved from Florida to Utah a few years ago. Can I just say, it was so incredible to have them attend Curt's wedding in Salt Lake last May. They will always have a huge place in our hearts. Gary never made Curt feel like a "nerd" or that something was wrong with him because he loved reading. This love of reading has served Curt well. He continues to read approximately 1 book per week. Thank goodness his wife, Carmen, also has a love of reading. I am so thankful that Curt has always had the courage to pursue his gifts of piano and reading, loves that will pay dividends for life.
I look forward to your Reviews, Recommendations, and Insight Curt!!!!!!
