Our New Pet

A Guinea Pig... Yes... A Guinea Pig...Oh My!!!!!
Yes, I am absolutely certifiable... Megan is the proud parent of a new Guinea Pig. She has such a need to love and nurture a pet, yet our track record has not been great with animals. I am not an animal lover, nor am I an animal hater. I think pets are wonderful for everyone else, yet my Megan totally loves animals. Our neighbor just got a hamster, which kicked the need for a pet in to overdrive, but I just could not do the hamster thing again (I learned the hamster lesson during parenting phase 1**see story below). We were walking into the grocery store, Publix, yesterday when we saw a sign offering a Guinea Pig free to a good home, accessories and all. Ron called last night and the rest is history... after the owner "checked us out" to make sure we were a suitable family.... we became the new owners a few hours ago. Can you imagine if we had not been a 'suitable' family for a Guinea Pig? I am not sure I would have recovered from failing that test!
There is no way to explain the joy this brings to Megan!
I really am just darn crazy. This creature lives inside my house!!!
He looks like a rabbit-hamster-guinea pig!
These are the shavings that MEGAN is going to clean several times per day.... yea, right!
All is right with the world when Megan has a furry friend to cuddle and love. This little guy is about 2 years old and very tame and lovable.

When we lived in our Royal Palm Beach house, somehow the boys had hamsters. I still cannot remember how we got them, who gave them to use, or how I would have ever agreed to have rodents live inside my house, but we had them. It was short lived, though.
The hamsters got out and capturing them was nearly impossible. I would lie on the couch at night and hear them digging and chewing, but could not figure out where. Then the evidence came out. In the laundry room, behind the washer and dryer, all the insulation from the walls was out on the floor. The Hamsters were in the walls! YIKES!!!! We never saw, heard, or smelled them again.

Crazy story about the hamsters and the pics are priceless. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a face similar to that. Soo sweet.

I was telling Dad last night that Megan may need to worry when Andrew comes home. Don't they eat guinea pigs in Peru?

Cute Megan! ... the guniea pig is bigger so if he gets loose, he'll be easier to spot.. Good call! :) and very funny...
