Illuminating Truth....
I just realized why my son Jeffrey cannot make it home for Thanksgiving... it has nothing to do with Thanksgiving and work schedules.... it has everything to do with his love (not) of hanging Christmas lights on our house.
On Thanksgiving evening, we begin setting up our tree and decorating the inside and outside of our house. This is a 2-3 day process. With a 2-story house, and the fact that Ron and I are no longer in our 20's or 30's, this task becomes more complicated every year.
Gone are the days of Curt and Ben actually enjoying decorating the outside of our house with Christmas lights. (When Allred's moved out of their house, we inherited their exterior Christmas lights, the next year, when we went to use the lights, we found a meticulously prepared diagram of the Allred house and where the lights should be hung, plugged in, etc). The credit for this plan has to go to Ben. Every detail was covered.
I'm on to you Jeffrey....for Thanksgiving, see you in Gainesville, on your turf, far away from our house, far away from the chore lists and projects dad needs help with! You don't have to climb on the roof and adjust the gigantic wreath along or hang the lights in just the right way. You are missing the Christmas Light Decorating already, I can hear you now!
As for interior lights... meaning Christmas Tree Lights.... I do the entire tree myself. The lights alone take hours and hours. No pre-lit tree here. If I get the lights on the entire tree without swearing, falling, or yelling at someone (Andrew) it is going to be a great Christmas! Once the lights are up, inside and out...it is smooth Christmas Celebrating!

Those were the days. Forget all he gifts and family time; Christmas is about the lights!)
Shauna, I know what you mean...Larry and I are not getting any younger, much older than you and Ron (Ha Ha) and we sure miss the boys. Rusty now married and living in Hilton Head NC and Peter half way around the world in Iraq for the third Christmas in 5 years!!! The lights will go on the porch and surrounding low trees where I can reach and that will have to do. Since neither Peter or Rusty will be here for Christmas, and the girls live close, we will put up a small table top tree, let Jen use our huge pre-lit tree, and go to their houses this year!! Heather had Thanksgiving for the first time in her new house this year, and she dd a great job! We will probably be a Jen's for Christmas this year.
The really great news this year is that Heather is pregnant again. We are all praying that everything goes well this time. She has her first ultrasound Dec. 3 at about 8 weeks.
Larry is back in the hospital again with pneumonia, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure and pulse rate. Two weeks ago he walked 6 miles...go figure!
Love to all, Michele
