Missionary Reunion Prep

Missionary Reunion Preparation
Elder Hostetler 1976-1978
Utah Salt Lake City Mission
Ron and many of the Missionaries he served with in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission are busy preparing for what may be their final reunion. They served under President Eldon Cooley, who recently passed away. Sister Cooley has requested one last reunion with all of their Missionaries. The Missionaries who served together 30+ years ago were some of the first to serve in the newly formed Utah Salt Lake City Mission.

The Reunion will be held the Friday night of April General Conference Weekend....so guess where I am headed??? Yes, Utah for General Conference. Along with a mini- honeymoon to celebrate our April 6th Engagement date, the focus of this trip will be spending time with former Missionaries and their families.
Part of the preparations for the upcoming reunion include rounding up old photos for a DVD Presentation. Ron asked me to scan several photos.
Below is a sampling of some of those photos.
I am so thankful for the opportunity Ron had to serve as a Missionary, especially with such an incredible Mission President, President Eldon Cooley from Mesa, AZ. President Cooley has been like a father to Ron is so many ways over the years.
(I am also thankful he got some better ties and learned to tie them a longer length!!!!)
This was Christmas Eve at the home of Elder L Tom Perry. Ron, Elder L Tom Perry, Sister Perry, Sister Cooley, and President Cooley. There were many opportunities for Ron to meet General Authorities up close. Being a recent convert and having never been to Utah, experiences such as this made a positive impact on Ron to this very day.
What would Missionary photos be without posing at the Airport.
Dig the tie to the far right....Ron was not the only one with ties that rivaled bibs!
Maybe it was just a 70's thing????? Whatever it was...glad it is over.
When we met, Ron had some seriously terrible ties. They were just so bad. A few of them still hang in the back of his closet(like the extra wide one in the top photo)... for sentimental reasons, he keeps them, but they are not worn

Below is a photo from the April 2001 Reunion
Ron played it safe... no tie to make fun of in this photo!

Here they are at the April 2001 Reunion

Unlike High School Reunions, The Mission Reunions are never often or long enough. We enjoy every minute.

What fun you'll have! Hmmmm, I loathe to think about some of the things I wore or did in the 70's.
NY's actual mission doesn't exist anymore. It's there only a different name. He served in North Carolina and Virginia in 1969-70.
So, (I'm tilting my head with a smug look) I was still in junior high school. HA!
