One of My Favorite Historical Figures and
Past US Presidents.
I am old enough to remember when the Birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington were celebrated separately and in a big way, not Presidents Day as we now celebrate.
My 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Jones, in Pocatello, Idaho at Greenacres Elementary planted the beginnings of my love and respect for Abraham Lincoln. I can still see the pictures of him and George Washington that hung on the wall in front of the classroom.
Mrs. Jones introduced me to the Gettysburg Address. Years later, this is one of my favorites to read over and over. Each time I read this document, I am inspired. Today is one of those days I will read The Gettysburg Address.
As a very young boy, my son, Jeffrey, developed a great love for all things Civil War. He was passionate about learning every detail. This passion caused him to beg us to take him to Gettysburg to see first hand the battle fields and historical locations. In the summer of 1996, this dream came true for him as our family travelled to Gettysburg. Not only for Jeffrey, but for me, this was a dream come true.
I have enjoyed visiting the sacred battlegrounds of many Civil War Battles. My favorite location connected to the Civil War history, however was the Cemetery in Gettysburg. It is hallowed ground and I could feel it.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Lincoln

Today is also Grandpa Sweet's birthday. He was named after Abraham Lincoln. That is why Jay and Jay III middle names are Lincoln.
