GPS-I LOVE YOU

Even when you Act Up...
Because, after, all, I have learned, it is NOT YOUR fault!
I am still on the road and not ready to return to my real life, however, I am headed that way in the next few days.
So many fun stories and pics to share, most will have to wait, yet, this one is worth sharing NOW...
As stated in my previous post, I LOVE traveling with a GPS. Absolutely LOVE it.
Entering an address and being navigated right to some one's front door thousands of miles away is amazing. It even got me to addresses in Canada without a hitch.
So.....
After arriving at Curt and Carmens' house in Michigan, we were singing the praises of our little Garmin GPS Toy.
Then...the thing made us absolutely FRUSTRATED!
I entered an address in Toronto, Ontario, Canada that I knew was about 4 hours away and it told me that my trip would take about 13+ hours....WHAT????
So I played with it and played with other addresses...still the same....About 3-4 times longer that I knew the actual trip would take.
In addition to the arrival times being WAY OFF...The routing was ODD, also. NO HIGHWAYS.
No matter what we tried, entered, adjusted, etc. the GPS would not route us on Highways and gave a ridiculous arrival time.
Now...I HAVE traveled 48 years WITHOUT a GPS and I am not afraid to use my Atlas and google maps etc. however, I am used to doing those travel preparations at home IN ADVANCE with a PLAN in mind before I leave my driveway.
The other glitch...Ron was getting ready to return to Florida and the girls and I would be on our own for a week. I was not sure when/where I would be near a computer each day to plan and study routes, so the Atlas was going to become my new best friend.
I would not have panicked, but I was headed to completely new territory...Toronto, Ontario, Canada and had already told my hostess, Linda, that I did not need directions....my GPS would get me there.
It was Sunday afternoon and NOTHING seemed to "FIX" this problem with the GPS. I was thinking I may need to stop at Costco and exchange this AMAZING little toy for a more cooperative one. We left Curt and Carmen at a Lake near Ann Arbor and headed for the Detroit Airport. This is when the REAL PANIC set in.
Keep in mind, the GPS would not route us on HIGHWAYS and the arrival time was totally crazy. We knew we were close to a HIGHWAY, but could not find it. We were backroading all over the place and our car was covered with MUD. Some how, we found the Highway and headed to the Airport, once we could find our location on the ATLAS.
Just before I dropped Ron at The Detroit Airport, I started playing with the GPS one more time. Then.....BINGO...I, the NON- TECHIE of the family, FIXED the "PROBLEM".
There are Three settings:
VEHICLE
BICYCLE
PEDESTRIAN.
Some How.....Some Way...We had been on BICYCLE SETTING for the past 36 hours.
Yes, Peddling to Toronto from the Detroit area would have landed me there by morning...MAYBE!
And there you have it...my GPS is WONDERFUL...still!
PS--I am LOVING my summer ROAD TRIP. Returning to Real Life will be difficult. Thankfully, Ron is there.
Have you ever travelled with a GPS?
Do you Love using a GPS?
Do you love Road Trips?

I'm not a GPS fan -- love your story though!

I think you made a mistake! How can you say you traveled 48 years without a GPS? That's at least 20 years more than you've been alive!

We love our (Costco) Garmins. We have one for each car and an extra one that the kids borrow occasionally.
NY even turns the dang thing on to go to church!!
Happy Travels!!
