Tonight, our School Literacy Night was based on this adorable story. Over the past 2 weeks, the entire school read this book; then each child chose a vocabulary word to "dress up" as for the Vocabulary Parade at the conclusion of Literacy Night.
Oh so cute....A Perfect way to enter Halloween Weekend (even though, at one point, I did whine about Megan needing THREE costumes for this week) Tomorrow, is Biography Dress-up day.. I am driving Amelia Earhart to school in the morning-really-her hair is in spongey curlers as I write!

ACCURATE!
Yes, she is wearing a dart board. What you dont see is the dart exactly in the center....ACCURATE!

Imagine all the words in the dictionary and how you would dress up as one of them...Tonight, some of the words we saw:
Obstacle, Outstanding, Stressed, Disheveled, Inquisitive, Empathetic, Elated, Loyal, Disoriented, Lovable, Germaphobe, Magic, Sweet, Imaginative, Academic, Paranoid, Celebration, Elegant, Charming, Opposite, Repetitive, Opulent, etc. etc. etc.
The older the children, the more complicated the words.
In addition to the Vocabulary Parade, we had Celebrity Guest Readers. I arranged for the Mayor, a City Councilwoman, a local Pediatrician, a local Radio Personality, and many more were on the schedule thanks to the Literacy Night Committee.
If you have any influence on the theme of Literacy Night at your school......I highly recommend building the event around this book.
What word(s) would you like to dress up as?
Any great costume ideas?
