The Official Arrival of Fall

Yes, I know, by the calendar, fall arrived a few weeks ago. In my mind, fall arrives with the presentation of The  General Relief Society Broadcast.  The broadcast last night was fabulous. One of my favorite messages was from our newly called General Relief Society President, Sister Linda K Burton. She said, Cleave to your covenants. When covenants are kept, families are strengthened.
I have been pondering the eternal consequences of honoring covenants since she spoke.
I organized a dinner prior to the broadcast. It was our ward and the Spanish speaking ward that meets in our building. There was a beautiful spirit all evening. The opening prayer and blessing on the food set the tone for a beautiful experience.
Even though my fall decorations are in storage, I was able to rustle up some fall decorations. Brown paper bags and silk sunflowers on clearance came together for cute centerpieces. I used the bandannas from my stash of PTA fall carnival supplies and it all came together. Lots and lots of help made it all happen.
We had salads and fall desserts. Everyone brought their yummy best and it was a delightful way to start the evening.
Fall Is officially here!
Let the General Conference preparations begin!

Lots of Last Times

On Wednesday, we were out of school for Yom Kippur.
It was the perfect day to make a nice breakfast and most likely the last Puffy Pancake we ever make at this house. Yesterday, the kitchen "stuff" was all packed up and ready to move. This is really happening!

Lots of Luck

I posted this photo on Facebook for my Hoglund cousins to see. I asked if they remember this little Buddha from our Grandpa Hoglund. I was not sure how I ended up with it but my cousin, Darlene told me she gave it to me because our Grandma said she wanted me to have it. What I do remember was rubbing this little guy's belly over and over and over. It was supposed to bring good luck. Along with some major blessings, I think I have had some GREAT luck in my life! Maybe this little Buddha helped out!

Uncovered Treasure

Every day is a new adventure as we work on the new house.
After the pressure washing this patio table looks fabulous.
Just another treasure that came with this great house!

Blessing of Technology

This is my favorite type of text message...
Photos with the sweet grandbabies in every day life.
This is an example of technology blessing my life.
Here is Desmond who has had enough of Church for one day.
Here is Riley at Church...note they have the same carpet
 Riley at the park
Alison and Riley a few days before Riley took off walking on his own
 Bath time for Riley.
Sweetness
Now Riley can walk, he does the family shopping.
It looks like he will choose his own flavor of yogurt!
And now that the number 1 little Gator can walk...he'll just walk to the
Gator games each Saturday.
I remember when my boys started walking. They walked for a few days and then they RAN. FAST. ZOOM. ZIP. And they could CLIMB even higher (like to the top of the refrigerator) One day, Curt helped Jeffrey climb to the top of the refrigerator and then shuttled the Cheerios box up to him. They were happy to sit up there and snack on Cheerios. It made my heart skip a beat, but they were happy as pigs in mud (or little boys on top of a  refrigerator)

Sign Gone Sign

It was a happy day to remove this sign from the window at our new house!!!!
What a relief and blessing to be at the end of very complicated Real Estate transaction.

Grandparents Day

Sometimes, I can't wrap my thoughts around the fact that I am a Grandmother, a Grandma! Then a sweet card arrives for Grandparents day and I am so thankful to be a Grandma to 2 of the sweetest little boys on the planet. Soon, the sweetest little girl on the planet will be born as our first Granddaughter.
Thank you for the card and precious signature, Riley!
This signature reminds me of my first Mother's Day card with
Curt's "signature". I still have it and many of the cards my
friends and family have sent over the years. I can't keep everything
but I keep the ones with sweet memories.

He Loves Me

Flowers from our new patio.
I LOVE that Ron brought them home in a water bottle.
It represents the season we are in...adapt and be flexible!

Knock Knock

This is just another charming feature of our new house.
A real brass door-knocker. It is solid and heavy.
When it knocks...you hear it!
Note the detail on the ring finger.
This is another color I need to choose...something charming that will compliment the house and this door-knocker. You could say that we bought a brass door-knocker and the house came with it.

Kat's Room

On the 4th try, we got the color right.
 It looks great.
I am generally not a fan of green walls and there was a fine line between screaming minty green and gray depressing green. This was just right and is just waiting for the bedspread to compliment it.

Progress

Random photos of the house progress.
Paint Paint Paint on every wall in every room.
I did something I have never done before-I hired a decorator to help me choose colors and give me some input on other areas of the new house. Actually, I hired 2 decorators. One did not charge me and one charged a very minimal fee. I would have spent that money on paint samples and running back and for to the paint store. It was time and money well spent. It gave me the courage to move forward with colors and design.
You will have to wait and see which of these made the "cut"
We have 3 painters working every day and Ron did the majority of the prep work for the walls.
There was so much prep work as there were nails all over the walls. The former owner was an
art collector and the walls were covered with art.
This little cubby is so cute. Trying to figure out the best way to decorate it
To the right, is the dining room.
 More colors colors colors

The Breakfast Nook. This will be fun to jazz up.
The office/den. I took some of my accent colors from this rug.
I'll post a better photo when I take one
It looks like we will be able to move after this weekend.
Hooray!
Here is the first clue that my leg and foot are on the mend...
LARGE mirror in the stairwell BEFORE
Photos do not capture the size of this mirror.
It was one of the things I loved about the house-not the ugly
"paint" job on the mirror, but just the mirror.
It is the perfect piece in the perfect place.
 Mid-Project
 After
I was able to motor around well enough to complete this project this morning. It was important to get the mirror painted before the painters were ready to apply the new paint color to the surrounding walls. I am going to return to the house and finish the job with a little "antique rub".  But for now... gotta put my foot up for a while.

Rusty

So my rusty, dusty brain has studied, memorized, practiced, and prepared for this important day.
Today concluded my 4 week Real Estate Sales Associate Course.
I have been attending classes 3 nights per week since August 24.
Yesterday and today were the "cram" days as the material was reviewed for today's final test.
Before taking the State licensing test, each student must pass the classroom final test.
It is the biggest test I have prepared for in many years.
Three hours are allotted for this test of 100 questions (10 of them were maaaaath!)
If a student passes, it is on to preparing for the State License test.
If a student does not pass, it is back to class, reviewing, memorizing, and re-taking the test.
Guess what?
I am not preparing for the State License Test...Yet.
I have to pass the class test first!
I'll get there, it just didn't happen today.

And They Are OFF

After 8 years, 2 sets of braces, retainers, and countless orthodontist appointments,
Megan's braces were removed today.
Can I get a hip hip hooray?
We went to her orthodontist appointment this morning thinking they would tell us "1 more month" until the braces come off (like they have been telling us for the past 4 months) but today was exciting...the braces came OFF. Thank you Dr Lunsford and your wonderful staff!

Care Package

My sister understands what it is like to lie on the sofa day after day with an injury.
She also understands that treats speed up the healing process.
A care package from my sister arrived on Thursday containing some amazing treats and fun magazines for my reading enjoyment. Let me tell you, my sister knows her candy and fun reading.
Some of the treats included:

Chocolate Coconut Heaven..
The Ghirardelli Gourment Milk Chocolate
Coconut Rendezvous Bar
 And who knew????
Caramel Apple Filled Werther's Original Candies.
Holy Caramel Apples!
So delicious!

I am already feeling much better!

General Conference Preparation

Can you believe LDS General Conference is in 3 weeks? I am little bummed because I was supposed to go to Salt Lake for General Conference but my leg injury changed that plan.
We will be in moving mode for the next 2-3 weeks so I need to make sure General Conference preparations (spiritual and temporal) are in place.
Here is a cute idea for a General Conference Trail Mix. from A Mamma B Blog. From this link on her blog, to to the Sugardoodle link for other ideas.
This would be great for a Family Home Evening, Youth or Primary Activity Day along with making a General Conference activity booklet.
Another fun idea would be to deliver this to the sisters you Visit Teach in a General Conference Care Kit.

Items you will need for the Trail Mix:
Bugles
M&M's
Goldfish Crackers
Pretzels
Sunflower Seeds
Marshmallows
Copy of the Poem Below (attach to bag of trail mix)
Here is a poem that goes with the Trail Mix:

Our Miracle

After months and months of a very tedious and complicated real estate transaction, we finally closed on our new house this past week. These are photos from the real estate web site and someday they will serve as "before" when comparing to "after". We feel beyond blessed to finally live closer to schools, work, and activities our children are involved in downtown.
Read the end of this post for the Readers Digest version of our miracle.

Front door. The round windows to the left are the office.
If you enlarge the photo, you will note that the windows and doors are framed with
decorative mediterranean tiles.
There are beautiful pots and
plants all over the patio and yard.
It is as the real estate ad described- "A Charming Mediterranean-Style House"
Another view of the front door. It is too hard to see in a photo,
but there is a very funky door knocker on the front door. It is a large  brass hand.
The back yard. Patio, pots and beautiful plants.
Can't wait to start playing outside when the weather is cooler.
It is a very cute yard and patio.
Another view of the patio and the back of the house.
The french doors go to the master bedroom.
There is another set of french doors that goes to the living/family room.
The side of the house. The doors on the left go in to the kitchen.
Up on the second floor, you will note a set of french doors.
They lead to a "Juliet" balcony located outside of Katherine's room.
There is a yellow and white striped awning that will be re-attached
after the pressure washing is complete.
View of the kitchen and breakfast nook.
DIning Room with the furniture that came with the house.
Lovely and handy for Ron and I today as we ate our first meal together
in the new house.
Master Bedroom-walks out to patio in back.
You may note at the point-there is not a stitch of carpet in the entire house.
Tile Tile Tile which means I am on the lookout for Rugs Rugs Rugs
 Master Bathroom-very spacious.
Megan's Bathroom. It will be stonewashed blue next time a photo is posted.
Stairs view from upstaris with an enormous mirror at the landing.
The mirror's frame with be gold/ bronze/ pewter-ish the next time I post a photo.
Still toying with some fun updates for the banister and rails.
If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have seen some of my stair ideas.
The stairs looking up. Some day, the tile in this house will be replaced
with wood like we have in our current house, but for now,
a carpet runner is on my radar for these stairs.
They are not the most attractive but have a lot of potential.
They are wide and tall. The closet underneath the stairs is HUGE
and tall enough we can walk inside,
unlike most closets under the stairs that are more like crawl spaces.
Downstairs guest bath. It has a funky shower "door" aka a sheet of thick glass.
The striped wallpaper is coming down (already in process)
and this room will have a brand new look and feel.
This is the bathroom that you, my guests, will see the most when you visit.
The Office. One of the coolest rooms in the house, but in need of some work and update.
This room has some sort of "grasscloth" rug on the floor with
ceramic tiles attached to the perimeter and those white shelves are bolted to the ceramic tiles.
They are coming up.
This is the first room you see when you enter the house and go through the foyer.
Generally, it will be Ron's "Man-cave" but Andrew will sleep here when he visits.
Katherines room. Her 44" desk will fit in between the two closets in the 48" space.
She has yellow, green, and a bright berry pink/red accent in her bedspread
so you will see those colors pop to life as we get her room painted and decorated.
Megan's room. I know, right? She has a built in library with beautiful shelves.
The books came with the house and she is sorting through them.
There are books in several languages.
Her room will have pops of navy, mustard and chinese/poppy red. Fairly neutral wall color.
Both of the girls chose their bedspreads and color schemes. I am using this move to teach them about planning a room, painting, decorating, budgeting your decorating dollar, etc.
I am using soft tones, nothing too bold or bright so I can use all my reds, golds, poppies, yellows, oranges, etc in the accents. Many pops of color.

Here is the Reader's Digest version of our miracle:
So our Plan A was to move to WPB closer to schools, work, and activities.
Then Plan B derailed Plan A (think campaign and election)
When Plan B turned out the way it was supposed to, we were able to go back to Plan A and move forward.

Many factors made it possible for this house to be placed in our path at the exact time we were ready to pursue Plan A.  We know the Lord opened many doors for our family to be at this point.

We have been quiet about many of the details of this move for fear it would not go through at the last minute, but deep inside, we knew it was right and would eventually come together. This move felt more right than anything we have experienced in a very long time. It was so clear as to where were should look for a house, what Ward (congregation) we should be in, how close we should be to schools, etc. It was just so very clear. And now that the pieces of this puzzle are together, there is no doubt it is right.

We have attended our new Ward (congregation) all summer where the girls are very happy and settled in. This was putting the "cart before the horse" but they had to attend camp with that Ward and Stake due to our school still being in session and it was important for them to bond with their new youth group. It just did not make sense to bounce them back and forth when we knew we would be moving. They are part of one of the most amazing youth groups I have seen in the Church. We did not see that coming and it has been one of the most delightful surprises in this entire experience.

In our absence from our former ward, It has been interesting to hear the "stories" aka "gossip" as to where we are and why we are moving (from the Ward we have lived in for the past 20 years). The stories grow more wild (and disheartening) each time one comes back to us. It has given me the resolve to be extremely careful about the way I speak and talk about other people and their lives.

Once the word was out about our move to another town, I expected raised eyebrows and crazy rumors around town that we are moving because of the election results, etc. But the people in this town and my friends all over town know better than that and I haven't had any wild stories come my way from around the community. Most people know we have been hoping to move for quite some time now. Downsizing has been a big goal for our family. I will miss Wellington and the hometown I have my heart in, but I will not miss putting over 100 miles per day on my car 5 days per week.I truly love the Village of Wellington and so many people who live here.

Of course, there is a full chapter book to write about this miracle. It is a long post that I have written and then try to shorten. There are so many twists and turns that led us to make this move, all of which were directed by Heavenly Father.
Stay tuned for the chapter book.
And meanwhile, if you are local, join me for a day of packing or cleaning at either house. No, we have not sold our current house, but that is the next miracle.
